A group of students from the cooking workshop at the Adult center “Doña Jimena” with venues in the villages of San Esteban de Gormaz and El Burgo de Osma (Soria) felt motivated by the tale other seniors were preparing in the same center. The cooking workshop teacher suggested them the possibility to make a research on the medieval food recipes, and then prepare them. They also took advantage to dedicate time for talking about the rights arised by the tale.

All the recipes had their origin in times when Christian, Muslim and Jewish people coexisted on the Iberian Peninsula. Times in which the dramatized story with puppets  takes place, where the Castilian character Don Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, known by all these towns and to this day as ¨El Cid¨ or ¨Sidi¨, makes his appearance.

The recipes belong from the times and lands where the food for the people was scarce and simple to prepare.

All the recipes below have been compiled by the adult and senior people “students” at the cooking workshop, they are written in Spanish language and the sources their consulted were:

Crema catalana

Dobladura de vaca

Farinetas de cuaresma

FLAÓ

Los puerros del Emir

Melimela

Menjar BLANC

Migas del pastor

Perdices a la toledana
